Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan gives 21 Assembly and 3 Lok Sabha seats to BSP

BSP will contest from Tirupati, Bapatla and Chittoor Lok Sabha constituencies.

Andhra Pradesh News: Two days after announcing their alliance, Jana Sena Party (JSP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have announced the seat-sharing between the two parties in Vijayawada. After holding talks with the BSP representative and Rajya Sabha MP, Veer, on Sunday, it was agreed that BSP would be given 21 Assembly seats and three Lok Sabha seats.

While the Assembly constituencies, where the BSP would be contesting, was not announced, Pawan disclosed that they have given them Tirupati, Chittoor and Bapatla Parliament constituencies.

JSP chief Pawan Kalyan said that the discussion of seat-sharing between CPI and CPI (M) is yet to take place, following which he will decide how many Assembly and Lok Sabha seats his party will contest.

The JSP has already released their first list of candidates who will be contesting in 32 Assembly seats and two Parliament seats.

True patriot, exceptional administrator: Tributes pour in for Manohar Parrikar

Condolences poured in following the death of three-time Goa Chief Minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar from all quarters, and from across the political spectrum. The news of his death was announced by President of India Ram Nath Kovind, who called him an “epitome of integrity and dedication in public life”.

Parrikar passed away at the age of 63 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in February last year and has been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and New York since.

Tributes to the BJP leader called him a “true patriot” and a “symbol of simplicity in politics”.

His background as an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) graduate and as a chief minister with an excellent track record as an administrator equipped him to initiate defence industry and policy reforms that are only now beginning to bear fruit.

Pulwama Attacks: Old Video Of Akshay Kumar Resurfaces; Pakistani Netizens Laud Him

While many Indians are criticising the actor, Pakistan is all praises for him. BOOM finds that the video is old and not after the Pulwama attacks.

Fact Check India: A short clip of an old video of actor Akshay Kumar where he is heard talking about Pakistan has resurfaced on social media, with a misleading caption that the actor is being ‘unsympathetic’ towards the soldiers who died in the February 14 terror attack in Pulwama.

The 23-second video is from a longer video shot in 2015 when the actor was speaking to media persons during the premiere of his film ‘Baby’. Kumar can be heard explaining why terrorism cannot be linked with Pakistan alone.

Fact Check: The video has been culled from a longer video of Akshay Kumar’s press interaction at the premiere of his 2015’s film Baby. At the 5.38 minute mark, Kumar can be seen addressing the terrorism in Pakistan question.

When the actor was interacting with the press at the event, he was asked by a reporter, “Sir, you have said that terrorism is not about a particular country. But whenever terrorism is talked about, Pakistan is always mentioned…”

Kumar answered, “There is nothing like that (terrorism). Terrorism doesn’t happen in a country. It is an element.” He then went on to explain, “It is there in India, USA, Australia, Paris and Peshawar. It is a group of particular people who spread terrorism, not a country.”

No, Gurmehar Kaur Was Not In Pakistan Post Pulwama Attack

Fact Check on Fake News: Twitter user Gaurav Pradhan has alleged that student activist Gurmehar Kaur was in Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attacks to speak about minorities and how such attacks hurt them. The tweet by Pradhan who has over 1.6 lakh followers has got more than 1300 retweets at the time of writing this story.

Accompanying his tweet with a portion of Kaur’s interview with the BBC Urdu channel, Pradhan accused Kaur of being funded by the general secretary of the Indian National Congress and her ‘role model’, Priyanka Gandhi. At the end, he posed a question, “Why was she in Pakistan”.

Fact Check: Kaur, who clarified, “It is insane the kind of things being pushed (now). Kaur is in the UK to deliver talks at the Oxford University and Kings College. She has faced a severe backlash ever since she started advocating peace between India and Pakistan.
